Seraphic Launches New Electron App Protection

The modern enterprise runs on browsers and applications. Traditional browsers such as Chrome and Edge, and new AI browsers like Atlas and Comet, are fully protected by Seraphic’s Secure Enterprise Browsing (SEB) platform. However, many of today’s most used applications, such as ChatGPT Desktop, are accessed outside of the browser through an app powered by the Electron framework. From collaboration tools and messaging platforms to GenAI and productivity suites, these Electron apps have become the nerve center of modern work... and an under-monitored attack surface.

That changed today. Seraphic is announcing a major new capability: native protection for Electron-based applications.

This marks the first time a browser security platform has introduced Electron app coverage. This addition expands Seraphic’s mission to deliver enterprise-grade browser and Electron app security. It extends protection to the frameworks employees actually use, so organizations gain full visibility and control over Electron environments. It ensures consistent governance across both web and desktop surfaces.

What is an Electron App?

An Electron app is a desktop application built with web technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, packaged to run on Windows, macOS, and Linux as a native program. It bundles Chromium for the UI and Node.js for system access, so one codebase can target multiple platforms. Popular tools like ChatGPT, Visual Studio Code, Claude, and Discord use Electron to deliver rich, browser-like interfaces as installable desktop apps.

Why Electron Apps Need Enterprise Protection

By using web technologies, Electron enables developers to create cross-platform apps with great speed and flexibility. However, Electron apps also inherit many of the same security risks as browsers: unmonitored data flows, untrusted JavaScript execution, and potential code injection. These risks are especially concerning for enterprises relying on Electron-based productivity and communication tools, where sensitive data is constantly shared and accessed.

Without native enterprise controls, these apps often fall outside traditional endpoint and browser protections. Attackers know this, and increasingly exploit Electron’s extensive APIs to move laterally, exfiltrate data, or establish persistence. Seraphic’s new Electron app protection directly addresses this blind spot. It brings the same granular security, already trusted in browsers, to these critical desktop applications.

Equally important is the need for data loss prevention (DLP). DLP is crucial for enterprises to secure sensitive information in browser environments, especially as remote work and SaaS usage has expanded. Browser-based DLP prevents data leaks from uploads, copy-paste, file transfers, screenshots, and access to unsanctioned cloud apps - key risks with modern workflows. Seraphic’s DLP capabilities now extend to Electron apps, so companies can enforce policies and maintain regulatory compliance directly at the point of data access and transfer.

Meeting the Moment: The AI Security Imperative

The rise of AI in the enterprise is rewriting security boundaries. Teams are embedding AI copilots in desktop apps, connecting LLMs directly to business data, utilizing AI browsers for online workflows, and deploying internal AI assistants built on Electron frameworks. Every one of these innovations increases efficiency, but each also expands the potential attack and data leakage surface.

Traditional security tools were not designed for this world. The browser has become the operating system, and frameworks like Electron are now its extensions. Protection must operate within these environments, not outside them. That’s exactly where Seraphic works.

Seraphic’s approach blends innovation and practicality. By combining browser and Electron protection, AI governance, and integrated DLP, Seraphic's platform helps enterprises embrace AI safely, managing the fine line between trust and exposure.

Unified Security Across Apps, Traditional and AI Browsers

Enterprises have long struggled to maintain consistent policy enforcement across web apps, browsers, and desktop clients. The Seraphic platform uniquely solves this challenge by running seamlessly in both browser and Electron environments. This allows security and IT teams to define one set of rules for all user interfaces. Governing access, detecting risky actions, and protecting data wherever it moves.

With Seraphic’s new Electron app protection capability, organizations can:

  • Enforce AI governance and DLP policies directly inside Electron-based tools
  • Detect and block malicious or unapproved extensions and plug-ins
  • Prevent data exposure through clipboard, screenshots, and external uploads
  • Control file sharing, copy-paste behavior, and sensitive content access
  • Enable consistent visibility for compliance and audit readiness

By providing a single policy fabric across traditional, AI browsers, and Electron apps, Seraphic eliminates fragmentation and simplifies enterprise security management.

Seraphic's AI-Driven Security Ecosystem

This release also ties directly into Seraphic’s expanding AI Security suite, designed to protect enterprises as generative AI and LLM-based tools become central to daily workflows. Applications, traditional browsers, and AI browsers serve as AI workspaces, where employees query, generate, or share corporate data through AI chat interfaces and copilots. These interactions bring immense productivity, but also immense risk.

Seraphic’s GenAI Dashboard: Real-Time Oversight and Control

Seraphic’s GenAI Dashboard turns AI oversight from reactive to proactive, enabling organizations to adopt AI with confidence and protect against AI-driven threats. All this is achieved without making infrastructure changes and with no user friction.

  • Complete AI Activity Visibility: Real-time monitoring of all AI interactions, including prompts, uploads, downloads, and agentic behavior.
  • Shadow AI Detection: Identifies unauthorized or high-risk AI tools and enforces granular access and usage guardrails.
  • Inline AI Data Protection (DLP): Inspects prompts, pasted text, file uploads, and crosstab activity before data leaves the device; blocks, masks, or watermarks sensitive content.
  • Protection for AI & Agentic Browsers: Native enforcement for ChatGPT, Atlas, Dia, Genspark, Comet, and other agentic browsers, preventing token misuse, unauthorized automation, and AI-driven threats.
  • Electron Application Protection: First-of-its-kind coverage for Electron apps.

AI Security with BrowserTotal™ by Seraphic

In addition to its enterprise solution, Seraphic gives back to the wider security community through BrowserTotal™, a free platform where users can educate themselves on AI threats like Prompt Injection and analyze LLMs for safety, empowering organizations and individuals to proactively mitigate risks as AI technologies evolve. Users can also test prompt injection vulnerabilities in AI browser assistants and explore various attack vectors targeting browser-based AI agents. With the BrowserTotal™ Extension Marketplace, users can safely access and download popular AI-powered extensions through major platforms like the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, Edge Add-ons, and more.

Protecting the JavaScript Engine with Effortless Deployment

By protecting the JavaScript engine in both conventional browsers, AI browsers, and now Electron apps, Seraphic ensures consistent DLP, centralized logging, and adaptive enforcement regardless of user preference or device. Crucially, this works without disrupting user workflows or requiring changes to existing infrastructure. Organizations can secure AI and browser-based activity seamlessly, while also securing Electron apps, with a single agent deployment.

What’s Next?

The new Electron protection capability marks another step forward in Seraphic’s evolution as the leading browser and application security platform for the AI era. As organizations modernize their toolsets, adopt GenAI assistants, and shift toward cloud-based workflows, Seraphic ensures these advances remain secure and compliant.

In a world where every application can act as an AI gateway and every user session can hold sensitive intelligence, visibility equals power. Seraphic continues to provide that visibility - empowering enterprises to innovate confidently, secure every digital workspace, and lead safely into the next phase of AI-driven productivity.
